The Uppingham Recordings

Rupert Egerton-Smith has gained a reputation as not just as a superb concert artist, but also a splendid technician.  His performances are both expressive and full of the kind of Old World lyricism associated with the masters of the instrument, thus leading critics during his recent United States tour to proclaim him “a pianist and musician of the highest calibre.”

It should therefore come as no surprise that following an invitation from Andrew Kennedy, Director of Music at England’s Uppingham School, Egerton-Smith’s alma mater, to lay down tracks of some of the works he planned to perform as part of his US tour, Egerton-Smith took advantage of a Christmas holiday and the school’s magnificent recording facilities to organize a release of works by Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Mozart, and Rachmaninoff, among others, that is as varied as it is remarkable, demonstrating singular facility across a multitude of periods and styles.

The Uppingham Recordings presents completely satisfying interpretations, giving the listener new insight into the works presented, while also demonstrating Egerton-Smith’s unique talent for bringing both great depth and dimension to everything he performs.
